JAMES R. DAY
Who exactly am I? Well, I live and work in Mississippi right outside Jackson and I’ve lived here my entire life. I have been the owner / operator of Cubla Incorporated, an Information Technology consulting business (www.cubla.com), for more than 20 years. Over the years I have done many different things, owned many different companies and had many different interests (sounds better than hobbies), but Information Technology has always been my passion.
My business experience is broad. I have started, purchased, and sold many companies having once held a burglar & fire alarm, auto dealer, and real estate agent license all while running my primary technology business and actively trading. There is not much I haven’t done or at least tried. I have failed more than I have succeeded I will be the first to admit, but it has always been fun!
I suppose business is my true passion and I cannot remember a time when I didn’t own one or wasn’t thinking about starting another. My mother used to say I was born with a briefcase in my hand (back when those were still popular) and looking back that was absolutely the case.
As I’ve gotten older I have calmed down a little. I still own and operate Cubla as well as own and manage several rental properties, but I have let everything else go. I just don’t have the time. I have this blog and a few other minor interests, but for the most part I am retired from business startups.
Throughout my life I have spent a great deal of time looking for things to keep my mind busy and I rarely sleep. I work around the clock and get bored very quickly. I like fast cars and things that pump my adrenaline and anyone who knows me knows I could have retired several times on the money I’ve lost on cars alone. I have owned more than 100 and lost money on every one. However, I now consider myself a master of buying and selling cars and auto financing. See, all that money wasn’t a total loss…
People used to tell me all the time I should concentrate on one thing and these days I pretty much do. Most considered my interests to be a negative, but I found this ridiculous and believe education and learning is the secret to a happy life. I once purchased a Ford Backhoe (655D) just to learn how to drive it and dig holes – I loved it!
I hated school growing up and looking back I believe it was just too damn slow. I’m a doer, not a talker, so I skipped college and picked up my first IT client the month after I graduated High School (still manage them today) and never looked back.
I read a tremendous amount and enjoy binge watching Netflix like everybody else. I’m a sci-fi nut and love a good Ancient Aliens.
MY TRUE LOVE
My dearest Hillary…I owe a great deal of thanks to my wonderful significant other who supports me around the clock and tries to understand my obsessions. She is a real trooper indeed and without her I am lost. She has dealt with the “honey, I just made a ton of money” as well as the “honey, I just lost everything we have” conversations like a pro and with a realistic, rational approach that only she can provide. Rarely does she let me see her frustration and / or boredom and for that I am truly grateful!
Behind every great man is an even greater woman…
